PACKING AWAY THE TULIP CRADLE

The tulip cradle
lies in pieces,
as I turn each rusty
screw the shiny veneer
bulb falls in half,
its stem an unrecognizable
shaft on the wool rug.

Soft and low,
you rocked your cotton baby,
tucking the quilt I made
in tight,
spinning the cradle
around full circle,
testing the laws of gravity.
