DAWN

I wish I had a lover
just for dawn,
when the cats wake up
to bathe and stretch,
and the fishermen
hurry into their day,
a very large woodpecker
out front.

All the crows
are waking up,
and something I have never heard,
or, perhaps, merely did not
notice,
repeats her lovely song
2 calls, 3 trills
2 calls, 3 trills
2 calls, 3 trills
into the day.
