99poems/blackdog

A bulky black dog
and his equally
large mottled
companion,
in the field
across from
my house.
Relocated wolves.
There seem to be
a lot of them
around here.
Wolf owners
meet, like new
mothers,
for play time,
to trade stories
and tips.
A sort of citified
wildness,
contained,
as our lives are,
within six-foot fences.

We look to our
children
to accomplish
what we cannot,
what had to go
undone.
and to our pets
to be what we
cannot.
