(lilac)

The wild lilac
has burst out
in the last
two weeks.
Where have I
been?
I get so excited
driving west
at dusk, that
I nearly drive
off the road.
This short-lived
thrill, when
purple comes
to meet the
prevailing yellow.
the acacia,
the mustard,
the sour grass,
that’s already
here.
