2000/2ndQtr/consumer

The curtains I bought shrunk.
A consumer’s life is hell –
I like it best when I don’t
have to shop at all.
Everything has to go back once,
curtain rods and pillows.
Things don’t fit or look right
in the light.
I try to take the simple path
but seem to have trouble
finding it.
Stores never have the plain
things I want.
It always means an extra trip.
I dread the pilgrimage that comes,
when a good thing goes,
for bras that don’t bind
and shoes that are wide enough.
Some people shop online,
but I have this need
to touch and feel.
Objects have a life of their own
you can’t see in a photo,
that you have to be with it
in a room to know.
