A cool July morning,
I sit outside beside
my one gardenia bloom,
drinking green tea.
My fuchsia is failing,
something is eating the rose. Still
we’re doing quite well for summer.
I attribute it to the sandalwood
in the diffuser around the clock,
the fan and air conditioner
that run almost as much,
my excellent management
of windows and shades,
and some miracle,
I know not what,
but fear losing
all the same.
