2016/age

As you age they say
your life grows smaller.
Post office to grocery store
and back.
Now and then the drug store,
or out for flowers for the foyer
and dining table if nothing is in bloom.
Less frequently now galleries
and art museums.
Movies out are on Netflex,
even dinners have become lunch.
I don’t drink or go out for tea.
You have your afternoon coffee treat
but that’s at work
and doesn’t effect me.

I drive to lunch with my older friend,
we always go to the same place.
It’s boring I’ll admit
but hard to change it seems.
Hard enough to make the drive
and sit shouting in her silent
living room,
where she can’t hear
how small things
have become.
